Suvarna Bhasma: The Gold in Suvarnaprashan
Suvarna Bhasma is gold that has been purified and processed into a fine ash through repeated classical steps (Shodhana and Marana). It is the ingredient that gives Suvarnaprashan, or Swarna Prashana, its name: Suvarna means gold and Prashana means to give by mouth.
The Kashyapa Samhita describes Suvarnaprashan as medhagnibalavardhanam, meaning it increases intellect (Medha), digestive fire (Agni) and strength (Bala), and calls it ayushyam and varnyam, good for life span and complexion. Read the full verse in our Suvarnaprashan shloka guide.
Brahmi, Shankhpushpi and Vacha
These three are the Medhya herbs of Ayurveda, the group the classical texts use for memory, learning and a calm mind.
- Brahmi (3.9 mg/ml): the best known Medhya Rasayana, traditionally given for memory and focus.
- Shankhpushpi (3.9 mg/ml): described for intellect and a settled mind and sleep.
- Vacha (4.8 mg/ml): described for speech, clarity and memory; classically given to children in very small amounts.
Amla, Harde and Baheda
Together these three fruits make Triphala, one of the most used combinations in Ayurveda.
- Amla (4.8 mg/ml): a Rasayana fruit and a natural source of vitamin C, traditionally used for immunity.
- Harde (4.8 mg/ml): described for digestion and regular bowel habits.
- Baheda (4.8 mg/ml): traditionally used for the respiratory tract and digestion.
Bala, Chitrak and Manjishtha
- Bala (3.9 mg/ml): the name itself means strength; Ayurveda uses it as a Balya herb for strength and growth.
- Chitrak (1.9 mg/ml): a Deepana herb, described for kindling appetite and digestion.
- Manjishtha (1.9 mg/ml): traditionally used for the blood and healthy skin.
Honey: The Base
Honey (Madhu) makes up 965.3 mg of every ml. Ayurveda calls honey Yogavahi, a carrier that helps the other ingredients reach the body, and it gives the drops the mild sweet taste children accept easily.
Classical preparations mix the gold with honey and ghee. Baby Satwa's FDCA-approved formula uses honey as the only base. There is no ghee, and no synthetic preservatives, artificial colours or flavours.
How to Read a Suvarnaprashan Label
Most Suvarnaprashan drops in India list the same herbs. What differs is how much of each is inside. When you compare brands, check:
- Gold per ml: is the Suvarna Bhasma quantity printed, or only the word "gold"?
- Herb quantities: mg per ml for each herb, not just names.
- Licence number: an Ayurvedic manufacturing licence (ours is GA/1572).
- Base: honey, ghee, or both.
