Pushya is the 8th of the 27 Nakshatras. The name comes from the Sanskrit root Push, to nourish. When Pushya falls on a weekday, the day takes a special name: Guru Pushya on Thursday and Ravi Pushya on Sunday. Both are treated as the most auspicious Pushya days of the year for new beginnings, which is why so many families buy gold or start new work on them.
For Suvarnaprashan, the connection is simple. Suvarnaprashan is a Rasayana (nourishing) ritual, and Pushya is the Nakshatra of nourishment. A Ravi Pushya just before Diwali is a natural day for families to give their child's first drop or mark the monthly ritual together.
How to Give Suvarnaprashan on Ravi Pushya
- Time: early morning, within the Pushya Nakshatra hours.
- Empty stomach: give the drops before food or milk, then wait about 15 minutes.

- 4 to 12 months: 2 drops daily
